Diagnostic / Interventional Cardiac Catheterization

Children's Hospital of New Jersey offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures performed in a new state-of-the-art digital catheterization suite specifically designed for pediatric patients. A dedicated team of experts performs all cardiac catheterization procedures.

Catheter-directed therapy of congenital heart disease complements the pediatric cardiovascular surgical expertise and enhances the treatment of complex congenital heart disease. Such procedures often do not require general anesthesia and are aimed at avoiding or minimizing surgical intervention.

The diagnostic procedures available at Children's Hospital of New Jersey include:

  • Angiography
  • Hemodynamic studies
  • Intracardiac electrophysiologic procedures

The therapeutic procedures available at Children's Hospital of New Jersey include:

  • Balloon angioplasty of diminutive branch pulmonary arteries
  • Balloon angioplasty of selected native and recurrent aortic coarctation
  • Balloon valvotomy of stenotic pulmonary, aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves
  • Intravascular stent placement for relief of arterial and venous stenoses or palliation of obstructed surgically placed conduits
  • Device occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus or other anomalous arterial and venous communications
  • Amplatzer® device closure of atrial setpal defects
  • Designated center for the FDA investigative study of Amplatzer® device closure of patent foramen ovale to prevent recurrent stroke
  • Radiofrequency ablation therapy of cardiac dysrhythmia
