In the United States we are accustomed to abundance of medical expertise
and facilities, but around the globe underdeveloped countries are struggling
to provide even basic medical care, leaving those who are critically
ill with nowhere to turn.
Through the program,
physicians and nurses at The Children's Hospital of New Jersey are helping
children with life-threatening cardiac conditions from countries such
as Trinidad, Nicaragua, the former Soviet Union, Sri Lanka, Syria and
Mexico. Since The Children's Heart Center was founded, over a dozen
infants and children from around the globe have come to the Center for
surgical or transcatheter treatment.
