The
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of New Jersey is
a state-designated Regional Perinatal Center offering the most sophisticated
care for premature and seriously ill infants in the tri-state area.
The advanced techniques and technology for the
treatment of these fragile infants are softened by family-centered care
that offers ongoing support for parents. A team of neonatologists and
cardiologists coordinate critical care and monitoring of infants with
congenital heart disease. Our NICU is the only program in New Jersey
to provide Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) (a life support
system) and nitric oxide (advanced treatment for respiratory distress).
Nearly 200 infants are transported annually to the center from throughout
the state and surrounding regions. The transport
team, comprised of a neonatologist, a registered neonatal nurse with
special training in transport and an emergency medical technician, is
available 24-hours a day and utilizes a specially-equipped ambulance
dedicated exclusively to the transfer of infants to the NICU at Children's
Hospital of New Jersey.
