Saint Barnabas Medical Center is committed to graduate medical

The mission of the Medical Center concerning graduate medical
education is to train, educate and enhance the practice of
medicine by resident physicians and medical students, to
instill the highest professional and ethical standards in
these individuals to enable them to meet the needs of the
community.
In order to realize this mission, we will:
- Teach current and evolving modalities of diagnosis and
treatment.
- Provide an environment that is conducive to scholarly
activity
- Implement patient care that is compassionate, appropriate
and effective for the treatment of health problems and
promotion of health
- Encourage the application of evidence-based practice
- Ensure that trainees demonstrate a commitment to carry
out professional responsibilities, adhere to ethical principles,
and display sensitivity to a diverse patient population
- Ensure awareness of and responsiveness to the larger
context and system of health care and the ability to effectively
call on system resources to provide care that is of optimal
value
- Promote interpersonal and communication skills that result
in effective information exchange between patients, their
families and professional associates
- Monitor the educational programs and the performance
of trainees to ensure that national and regional standards
are met
- Use outcome assessment results for program improvement
- Instill the principles of life-long learning
- Teach the residents to provide patient-entered care that
is safe, effective, timely and equitable
