Clara Maass Upgrades and Relocates The Wound Center

Belleville, New Jersey—The Wound Center at Clara Maass Medical Center, hosted an opening reception for the newly upgraded unit on Wednesday, June 11. Since 1992, The Wound Center at Clara Maass has remained dedicated to caring for people with wounds that resist healing. Now relocated to the first floor of the Clara Maass Continuing Care Center, the Wound Center provides patient access to all the services of the hospital such as laboratory testing, radiological and imaging studies, and vascular studies, if needed. The first patients in this newly remodeled center will see several upgrades: three hyperbaric chambers, five exam rooms and a spacious waiting room. 

At The Wound Center, an experienced team of physicians (podiatrists, vascular surgeons, infectious disease specialists, and plastic surgeons) and nurses versed in all areas of wound care, work together to manage the most complicated wounds and expedite the healing process. Wounds are a major complication for people with diabetes, poor circulation and other chronic diseases.

Lifestyle, environment and nutritional status play an important role in the body’s ability to heal. At The Wound Center, patients undergo an assessment based on these factors to determine a personalized plan of care. Individualized treatment plans encourage the healing process while allowing patients the comfort of healing at home. Treatments prescribed by The Wound Center are likely to cure the non-healing wound of the average patient in six to eight weeks.

Patients who are referred to The Wound Center often suffer from a variety of conditions including: lymphedema;
diabetes, vascular conditions (including poor circulation); traumatic wounds; non-healing surgical wounds; rheumatoid arthritis; scleroderma and lupus; cardiac conditions, neuro-muscular conditions and stroke; bone infections; and malignancies.
