Volunteers
extend the services and care that Clara Maass is able to offer
patients, staff and the public. Volunteer opportunities are available
in patient-related services, clerical areas, fundraising and home
visitation. Most volunteers contribute at least 3 to 4 hours-a-
week and range in age from 14 to 84. The Friendly Visitors Program,
designed to support the frail and elderly in the community, was
named a winner of the American Hospital Association (AHA) award
for volunteer excellence. Volunteers who are "friendly visitors" offer
friendly visits, telephone reassurance, grocery shopping, information
and referral to other services for those requiring assistance.
The Auxiliary is a self-governing volunteer membership organization
whose members work together to assist Clara Maass in promoting
the health and welfare of the community. The Clara Maass Auxiliary
meets once a month from September to June. The programs include
a short business meeting, an educational presentation and refreshments.
In addition to the monthly meetings, auxilians sponsor about eight
fundraisers a year. Past fundraisers have included raffles, jewelry
sales, plant sales, baby photos and a fashion show.
