Belleville, NJ - The Nutley Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Clara Maass Medical Center to launch Businesses for a Healthy Community, an initiative of Clara Maass Foundation that is based on the belief that healthy residents are good for business.
"Healthy people contribute to a stable and vibrant consumer base, reliable local employment pool and comprise a safer community for everyone," said Dr. Donna Pontoriero, President of the Nutley Chamber of Commerce and Businesses for a Healthy Community charter member.
Nutley Mayor Joanne Cocchiola commends the partnership between the Medical Center and the town. "I have had many opportunities to observe what an asset Clara Maass Medical Center is to our Township. Clara Maass is an indispensable partner in our public health initiatives," said Mayor Cocchiola.
Membership, obtained with a $150 donation to Clara Maass Medical Center, will fund the purchase of life-saving equipment such as bike helmets, infant car seats and smoke detectors for the community.
In addition to supporting community safety and health initiatives, Businesses for a Healthy Community also promotes local businesses throughout the year. Member businesses receive a window decal, and their business names will be engraved on a wall plaque in Clara Maass' Emergency Department.
"Clara Maass Foundation appreciates the Nutley Chamber of Commerce's community spirit and philanthropic service to Clara Maass Medical Center and recognizes Nutley businesses as good neighbors," said Jane Newman Kessler, Vice President of the Clara Maass Foundation.
