BELLEVILLE, NJ - James Orsini, MD, of Montclair recently received a three-year appointment as Cancer Liaison Physician for the Hospital Cancer Program at Clara Maass Medical Center. The Cancer Liaison Physician Program is an integral part of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Orsini, who serves as President of the Medical Staff at Clara Maass as well as Director of Medical Oncology, is among a national network of more than 1,600 volunteer physicians who provide leadership and support to the Commission on Cancer Approvals Program, and other activities at their local facility.
Dr. Orsini will assist in providing direction as a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at Clara Maass Medical Center in order to maintain or seek approval of The Cancer Center at Clara Maass program by the Commission on Cancer. Twenty-two percent of hospitals in the United States, including Clara Maass Medical Center, have cancer programs approved by the Commission on Cancer.
The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer through education, standard-setting, and monitoring of quality of cancer care. Its members include fellows of the American College of Surgeons and 39 national organizations that represent the full spectrum of cancer care.
