Toms River, N.J. -- The Community Medical Center Auxiliary Association recently surpassed $7 million in total donations supporting Community Medical Center since its formation in 1954.
The Auxiliary is a dedicated group of volunteers who participate in a wide variety of fundraisers on behalf of Community Medical Center. The fundraising events include: home tours; art and craft fairs; bake sales; holiday boutiques; plant sales; cruises; as well as dinners, luncheons and teas. These fundraisers have contributed generous support to the hospital.
Community Medical Center’s Auxiliary has been an integral part of the hospital since its inception in 1954. In fact, they helped raise money to build the hospital which opened in 1961! Since then, the Auxiliary has supported expansions as Community Medical Center has grown from a 50-bed hospital to a regional medical center. In the early 1990s, the Auxiliary provided leadership support for the addition of a patient tower and outpatient lobby creating the current 596-bed facility.
The Auxiliary is currently assisting the latest growth of the hospital with a pledge of $750,000 for the renovation and expansion of the Regional Cancer Center. Last year, the Auxiliary purchased an R2 Mammography Overreader, the first of its kind in Ocean County. In addition, they presented the hospital with new Mobile Intensive Care Unit vehicles.
In addition to fundraising events, the Second Time Around Consignment Shop, located at 200 Corporate Circle in Toms River, is a major contributor to the success of the Auxiliary. The shop recently surpassed the $2 million mark in total funds raised for the hospital.
“The Second Time Around Shop is a major part of this fantastic accomplishment,” said Richard J. Pallamary, Vice President of the Community Medical Center Foundation. “The shop is a great source of support for the Medical Center and since the items are sold at such great prices, the community benefits greatly as well.”
Said Foundation Board Chairman Donald Jump, “The Auxiliary is a key part of the hospital’s mission and certainly has a voice in our overall plans. We are grateful for the input and support of our Auxilians and appreciate their compassion for the patients we serve.”
Community Medical Center’s Auxiliary Twigs are located throughout the hospital service area and new members are always welcome. For more information about membership in the Auxiliary Association, contact the Community Medical Center Foundation Office at (732) 557-3910.
