Community Medical Center to Present Special Programs Focusing on Anesthesia for Young and Old

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey, September 24, 2007--- In programs presented by the Lighthouse and Center for Kids & Family at Community Medical Center, anesthesiologist Frank J. Mara, M.D., of Toms River Anesthesia Associates, P.C., will discuss anesthesia for elderly and pediatric surgical patients.

With new advancements in anesthetic agents and monitoring equipment, anesthesiologists have a better understanding of medical problems associated with the aging process. Through “Anesthesia and the Elderly,” a program to be presented on Thursday, October 25, at 2 p.m., Dr. Mara will provide practical and accessible information about current anesthetic options and procedures for adult patients undergoing elective surgery. A discussion will follow on how anesthesiologists apply this knowledge to safely administer anesthesia to the senior citizen.

Then on November 15, at 6 p.m., Dr. Mara will present “Anesthesia for Your Child,” a program that will provide an overview of what parents and children need to know before surgery. He will address how parents can help ease children's fears and how anesthesia is administered to children.

Both programs will be held at the Lighthouse at Toms River, located at 591 Lakehurst Road. The programs are free, but pre-registration is required. To register or to learn more,
