Community Medical Center Debuts "Heart 2 Heart" Support Group

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey, September 4, 2007--- A new monthly support group developed in conjunction with the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Community Medical Center is helping individuals with heart disease live healthier lives.

"Heart 2 Heart,” Community Medical Center's monthly support group for people diagnosed with heart disease, presents information on topics such as nutrition, stress management, medication and risk factor modification.

Led by CMC’s specially trained Cardiac Rehabilitation registered nurses, the Heart2Heart Support Group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Community’s Pecora Auditorium.

“The idea to create a support group came from discussions with other cardiac patients and the nurses during class,” says Ben Cardullo, a Toms River resident and former rugby player who had cardiac surgery a year ago and founded the Heart2Heart group after completing the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Community. “The support group provides an opportunity for families, friends, nurses and medical personnel to exchange information.”

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Community Medical Center is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) — a designation that recognizes those programs rigorously reviewed by a national board and found to meet the outlined essential requirements for standards of care. The program is designed to help patients regain health, independence and overall well-being through a medically supervised program that combines the latest concepts of cardiovascular rehabilitation, optimizing the patient's physical, mental and social abilities.

“CMC’s cardiac rehab program helped me regain my confidence and strength and I have returned to work,” Cardullo says.” I owe it all to CMC’s Cardiac Rehab nurses. They are my angels.”

The next Heart2Heart Support Group meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11, when. Community Medical Center cardiologist Arnold Schonmuller, M.D., will present “Reducing Cardiovascular Risk Factors after a Heart Attack.”

All Heart 2 Heart support group sessions are free, but pre-registration is required. For more information about cardiac rehabilitation, or to pre-register for the Heart2Heart Support Group, call Community Medical Center at 888-SBHS-123.
