New Additions to the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center: Radiation Oncologist and Courtesy Transportation

TOMS RIVER, NJ, AUGUST 22, 2008 – The J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center has announced that David J. D’Ambrosio, MD, has joined the Department of Radiation Oncology after completing his residency at the prestigious Fox Chase Cancer Center in Pennsylvania where he served as chief resident.

Rajesh V. Iyer, MD, Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Community Medical Center, said, “We are pleased to welcome Dr. D’Ambrosio to our cancer center. He is skilled in brachytherapy (radioactive implants) for prostate, gynecologic and thoracic cancers, and image-guided radiation therapy (IMRT/IGRT).

Dr. D’Ambrosio began his residency at Fox Chase in 2004 after completing his medical internship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine Cabrini Medical Center in New York City. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedicine at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/City University of New York Medical School and his medical degree at State University of New York’s Stony Brook School of Medicine.

Dr. D’Ambrosio became Chief Resident of Radiation Oncology at Fox Chase in 2006. In 2007, he received the Radiological Society of North America’s Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award for his extensive research on prostate and head and neck cancer.

Dr. D’Ambrosio is a member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology; the American Society of Clinical Oncology; the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology; the American College of Radiology; the Radiological Society of North America, and the American Brachytherapy Society. He has published several peer-reviewed research papers on prostate cancer and lung cancer.

As Community Medical Center welcomes Dr. D’Ambrosio to its staff, the Cancer Center is also proud to announce that a new patient transport vehicle has been purchased thanks to a generous gift from the Community Medical Center Foundation. The 2008 Toyota Rav 4 is available to transport radiation oncology patients to and from the hospital for their radiation treatments. Rides are offered free of charge.

The service travels throughout Ocean County five days a week from 7:30 a.m. until about 4:30 p.m. Two drivers pick up patients at their homes, bring them to the hospital for treatment and then drive them home when they are finished. Patients who have no other transportation for radiation appointments should call the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at (732) 557-8270 and a social worker will assist them.
