Hospice Friends Celebrate 25 Years On Thursday, November 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Maplewood Country Club, the Friends of Hospice will celebrate its 25th Annual Fall Event. This anniversary celebration will feature renowned WOR AM radio personality Joan Hamburg, on-site boutique shopping and raffle drawings. Tickets are $80 for a Friend; $125 for a Benefactor. All proceeds benefit the patients and families served by the Saint Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center (SBHPCC). “Our guiding principles are the same today as they were when we started in 1983 -- to raise funds to support hospice programs that are not government funded,” said Honi Weiss, founder of the Friends of Hospice and a member of the SBHPCC Board of Trustees. She, along with founding members Ruthie Leeds, Mikelynn Salthouse, Janet Zuckerman and Lynn Koggan, were the backbone of the fundraising group for many years. Honi, Janet and Lynn continue to be involved today. Since 1983, the ‘Friends’ have organized luncheons, themed galas and golf outings that together have raised more than $2 million.
