Kimball Medical Center Seeking Hospital Volunteers

LAKEWOOD, NJ, November 16, 2007 –The use of volunteers in hospitals has been an age-old practice that brings immeasurable rewards. Volunteering provides the opportunity to open your life to many exciting experiences, like the joy and satisfaction from knowing you've made a difference in someone's life.

Kimball Medical Center needs caring individuals interested in contributing their time, talent, and energy as volunteer members of the dedicated health care team.

“When you volunteer at Kimball, you will become an integral part of a hospital that is committed to delivering the highest quality health care in the country,” says Donna Salin, manager of the Volunteer Resource Center at Kimball.

Each volunteer assignment is specially tailored to match the needs of the hospital with the schedule, abilities, and interests of the volunteer in many departments of the hospital, Salin notes, and there is a minimum requirement of one four-hour shift per week.

“Throughout Kimball, you will see many volunteers fulfilling important responsibilities,” she says. “They donate their time and energy to improving life for our patients, their families and visitors.”

With plenty of opportunities available at Kimball Medical Center, plus many exciting volunteer positions at one of the hospital’s three thrift shops in Lakewood, Jackson and Lakehurst, Salin notes that it’s the perfect opportunity to find out how truly valuable the gift of giving can be while touching the lives of others.

There is good reason to volunteer.  Studies show that volunteering is good for your mental and physical health since meaningful and rewarding volunteer work can add balance and perspective to your life. Meeting people, learning new skills, receiving positive feedback about a job well done does wonders for you and the people you are helping, according to Salin.

Each year, more than 450 volunteers share their time and talents at KMC’s facilities.  “Most volunteers find deep fulfillment in helping to care for those who must spend time in a hospital,” she notes.  “Their warmth and caring has a great impact on countless sick and lonely patients.”

Volunteer opportunities are available in a host of areas, including patient contact, clerical reception, transportation, child care, sales floor/cashiering, and knitting/crocheting/sewing from home.

“You will take an extraordinary journey filled with memorable human contact, a sense of participation, and the joy of giving,” Salin says.  “At Kimball Medical Center, we offer a comprehensive orientation and volunteer training program. Plus, we offer flexible hours, rewarding experiences, the opportunity to develop new friendships, and the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others!

“Feel the rewards of making a difference in someone's life and enrich your life by contributing to the happiness and well-being of others,”  Salin says.  “Hone your job skills, meet new people, help our terrific staff and become a part of the team.”
