Kimball Emergency Physician William C. Dalsey, M.D. Named “Hero of Emergency Medicine”

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has named William C. Dalsey, MD, FACEP, Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Kimball Medical Center, a “Hero of Emergency Medicine.” The campaign, which is part of ACEP’s 40th anniversary, recognizes emergency physicians who have made significant contributions to emergency medicine, their communities and their patients.

Dr. Dalsey has worked in the Emergency Department at Kimball Medical Center for the past six years. Under his direction, the hospital redesigned its emergency department, streamlining services, improving efficiency and expediting the delivery of care to patients. Today, the facility treats more than fifty-five thousand patients each year, maintains an accredited Chest Pain Center and is a leader among New Jersey hospitals in overall patient satisfaction.

“Bill Dalsey is a dedicated, compassionate and highly skilled emergency physician who has saved countless lives during his tenure at Kimball Medical Center,” says Joseph Hicks, Executive Director of the Lakewood hospital. “He truly embodies what it means to be a ‘Hero of Emergency Medicine.’ I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor. We’re proud to have him lead our Emergency Department team here at Kimball and congratulate him on this distinction.”

“Emergency physicians are on the front lines of America’s health care system, providing the essential community service of emergency care,” says ACEP President Linda L. Lawrence, MD. “The dedication, passion and commitment Dr. Dalsey has shown embodies the vision of ACEP’s founders and the ideals of our specialty.”

In addition to caring for patients at Kimball Medical Center, Dr. Dalsey serves as Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety for Emergency Medical Associates, a partnership of emergency physicians focused on providing world class, nationally recognized emergency services to hospitals and health systems. He developed emergency medicine residencies at the Joint Military Medical Command and Albert Einstein Medical Center, as well as assisted in the formation of several others. He developed several basic and clinical research programs, and has helped to create emergency departments that have been nationally recognized for service excellence. He founded the Ohio Young Physicians Section of the American Medical Association and served as its president.

Dr. Dalsey helped develop transcutaneous pacemakers, automatic external defibrillators, monitoring systems, national and international clinical policies and guidelines, and multiple medical technologies and products. He has been active in the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine and held ACEP leadership positions. He has been honored with multiple recognitions, including ACEP’s “Resident Research Award,” New Jersey ACEP’s “Best Clinician Award” and the U.S. Air Force “Surgeon’s General Research Award.” He has participated in EMS training, education and administration for more than 25 years. Dr. Dalsey continues to provide clinical care, teach and perform clinical research.

He is a professional society member of the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.  He has served in many leadership positions for various professional organizations.

Dr. Dalsey received his undergraduate degree at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

“The American College of Emergency Physicians is celebrating 40 years of advancing emergency care, and the nation’s emergency physicians are dedicated to saving even more lives and to improving emergency care for the next 40 years,” said Dr. Lawrence. “Tens of thousands of lives are saved each year by emergency physicians and 115 million patients are treated in the nation’s emergency departments.”
