—Kimball physicians served dinner to the nursing staff and all paying customers in the hospital cafeteria last week as the payback for losing a friendly competition to the Kimball nurses, and benefiting the Mother-Infant Pavilion at Kimball Medical Center.
In the spirit of raising funds, the nurses at Kimball challenged the physicians several months ago to see which group could sell the most raffle tickets. Under the terms of the challenge, whichever party sold the most raffle tickets, would be served dinner by the other. Raffle tickets cost $100 each and the prize was a 2008 vehicle from Pine Belt Auto Group with a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) up to $40,000.
Both the nurses and the doctors did an amazing job of promoting the raffle and selling or purchasing tickets, but in the end, the nurses were victorious. Kimball nurses sold 317 raffle tickets, while the physicians sold 248 tickets. And so, the Kimball nurses were declared the winners and the Kimball physicians made good on their promise.
“This competition made the entire raffle more fun for everyone while raising money for the Mother-Infant Pavilion at Kimball,” said Deanna Sperling, MAS, RN, CNA, Vice President, Patient Care Services. “Our physicians served not only our nursing staff, but also all paying customers in the cafeteria that day. They are already talking about a re-match for next year.”
Altogether there were 622 raffle tickets sold, raising over $25,000 for the Mother-Infant Pavilion at Kimball Medical Center which includes six Labor-Delivery Recovery (LDR) rooms combining the latest technology with a soothing home-like décor, along with 20 rooms dedicated to postpartum recovery. Additional services include 24-hour anesthesiology, in-house neonatology, 24 nursery beds and a 5-bed Special Care Nursery.
