Monmouth Medical Center has a variety of services and facilities available to meet the needs of patients and visitors from the observant Jewish community.

This guide provides you with information on those services, as well as resources in the neighboring community in which you may be interested, including kosher restaurants, and synagogues and kollelim.

We will make every effort to ensure that your stay at Monmouth is a comfortable, meaningful and positive one.

About Our Services

A collection of Jewish prayer and religious books is located in the maternity waiting lounge on the third floor of the Todd Building. These books have been provided by the Sephardic Bikur Cholim, and the cabinet can be accessed by using the combination vav-aleph-gimmel.

A kosher nourishment area containing a refrigerator and microwave oven is available to maternity patients. It is regularly stocked by the Sephardic Bikur Cholim with grape juice, challah rolls, pastry, Chalav Yisrael milk and delicatessen meats, under the supervision of Rabbi Yechiel Jacobowitz.

For pediatric patients and their families, there also is available a refrigerator specifically for kosher foods that is routinely stocked by the Sephardic Bikur Cholim under the supervision of Rabbi Yechiel Jacobowitz. Ask a member of your care team to help you locate these amenities.

A special "quiet time" room is available on the first floor of the Community Wing in Room 171, which can be entered by using the lock combination of bet-aleph-hay. A patient's spouse or family member can use this room to sleep at night or rest during the day. Please contact the hospital telephone operator by dialing "0" if you are using the room. The telephone in this room may be used for local calls.

Shabbos Entrance

On shabbos and holidays, visitors can enter the hospital through the manual door to the right of the emergency room entrance on Second Avenue. Once inside the hospital, walk straight and use the first stairwell on the right to gain access to all floors. Maps are available in the Emergency Department and at the information desk in the mail lobby.

Visitors can gain special access to a stairwell on Shabbos and holidays by using the door behind the information desk in the main lobby. The lock combination is bet-aleph-hay.

Kosher Menu/Foods

There is a special kosher menu for patients and visitors which conforms to Jewish dietary laws. To obtain a copy of the menu, please ask a member of your care team.

If your doctor has given approval for you to bring kosher food from home, you may request a portable refrigerator for your room. To have one ordered, ask a member of your care team.

Housing

Local housing can be arranged by Sephardic Bikur Cholim representative Chaya Jacobowitz, who can be reached at 870-2595. During July and August, please contact Leah Aboud at 229-7106 ir Tziporah Franco at 222-0078.

Because of fire regulations, candles are not permitted in the hospital. Electric candles are available by calling Extension 37800.
