CARDIAC MRI (973) 926-7475

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can be very useful in non-invasively diagnosing congenital heart disease, often with much more precision than other methods. MRI detects tiny energy emissions from water molecules present in every tissue of the body, and then processes these signals into images. The anatomic information obtained via MRI can be rendered into extremely detailed 3-D images, and manipulated for analysis from multiple different angles. Even with its potential for superior image clarity, there can be technical problems recording images from moving structures like the heart (and from uncooperative young children), so either the patient must remain very still or deep sedation must be utilized to obtain reliable diagnostic information.
