Press Releases - 2005 Newark Beth Israel Medical Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology Antenatal Assessment Lab Received Three-Year Reaccreditation NEWARK, NJ -- The Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), recently granted The Newark Beth Israel Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology Antenatal Assessment Lab, a three-year reaccreditation in obstetric ultrasound. The Council recognized the efforts that the Division has taken to provide quality ultrasound to its patients. Newark Beth Israel is an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. As a voluntary peer review process, accreditation from the AIUM involves the expertise of obstetricians, gynecologists, radiologists, family practitioners, surgeons and sonographers, who offer sonographers and physicians, the opportunity to evaluate their policies, procedures and scanning protocols and compare them with national standards for diagnostic ultrasound. Each year more than 10,000 women are referred to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology Antenatal Assessment Lab at Newark Beth Israel for evaluation. Services provided by the Antenatal Assessment Lab are vital to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's designation as a regional referral perinatal center. The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is staffed by trained experts in the field of perinatal medicine and the treatment of women who anticipate or are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. High-risk pregnancies can be managed with special testing including the most advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound, amniocentesis and chronic villus sampling. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a 671-bed regional referral teaching hospital with specialized programs including heart and kidney transplantation, cardiac surgery, oncology, and maternal/child health services.
