Press Releases - 2006 Frank A. Briglia, MD, MPH, and R. Stanley Hum, MD Frank A. Briglia, MD, and R. Stanley Hum, MD, pediatric critical care physicians, were recently appointed to the medical staff of New Jersey's largest state-of-the-art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Children's Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Drs. Briglia and Hum join a renowned staff of board-certified pediatric intensivists who provide care to the region's most critically ill and injured children. The PICU offers highly specialized services including advanced respiratory support, renal replacement therapies for acute renal failure and extra corporeal life support. The unit is also supported by a satellite pediatric pharmacy that is staffed 24-hours-a-day to serve the unique needs of young patients. Frank Briglia, MD, MPH, received his medical degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his master's degree in public health from the University of Michigan. He completed a residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, PA, and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Children's National Medical Center, George Washington University School of Medicine, Washington, DC. Most recently Dr. Briglia was director and founder of the Specare Center for Special Health Care Needs, a multidisciplinary facility serving children with complex medical diagnoses who require intensive care to assure developmental progress and medical success. He also served as the medical director of the Ventilator-Dependent Unit at Wanaque Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, Haskell, NJ. In addition, Dr. Briglia was head of the division of pediatric critical care medicine at the Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper, Camden, NJ, for 10 years, and chairman of the department of pediatrics and fellowship director of pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Board-certified in pediatric and pediatric critical care medicine, Dr. Briglia continues to provide leadership to several state and local health agencies. He served as chair on the Governor's Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Serves for Children and is a member of the Committee on Emergency Department Regulations for the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Dr. Briglia has presented testimony to the New Jersey State Health Department on children's health issues. Dr. Briglia is the principal investigator for several research grants and has co-authored a dozen articles published in a variety of professional journals. R. Stanly Hum, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. He completed a residency in pediatrics from Baystate Medical Center Children's Hospital, Springfield, MA and fellowships in pediatric critical care at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, and British Columbia's Children's Hospital, Vancouver, Canada. Certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Dr Hum has conducted numerous research studies in the field of pediatrics and is a published author.
