Press Releases - 2006 PANAYOT PANAYOTOV, M.D., APPOINTED BLOOD BANK DIRECTOR AT NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER NEWARK, NJ - Panayot Panayotov, M.D., Ph. D. joined the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. Board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, Dr. Panayotov joins Newark Beth Israel from Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York, where he served as Blood Bank Director and Assistant Director of Clinical Laboratories. Dr. Panayotov received his medical degree from the Medical Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria. He completed his Pathology residency training at New York Medical College Affiliated Hospitals, followed by fellowship training at the New York Blood Center and Transfusion Services of Mount Sinai, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Bellevue Hospitals. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. At the Department Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Dr. Panayotov will serve as Blood Bank Director and Pathologist. He will oversee all functions of the Blood Bank including responsibility for transfusion process safety and the transfusion policy. In addition to his expertise in blood banking and laboratory medicine, Dr. Panayotov has published widely in the field of virology. An affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is a 673-bed tertiary care teaching hospital with specialized services including heart and kidney transplantation, adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, hematology/oncology general and vascular surgery, behavioral health services, and maternal/child care.
