Press Releases - 2007 Thoracic Surgeon Nazly M. Shariati, MD, Joins
Dr. Shariati is experienced in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery techniques, the most advanced minimally invasive procedures that provide complex surgery through small incisions and offer lower risk of complications, less pain and shorter recovery time. She will work closely with the team of physicians at the Saint Barnabas Heart Center and the Frederick B. Cohen, MD, Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. In addition, she will be active in New Jersey’s only certified Lung Transplant Program now being developed at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Shariati received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, OH. She completed a residency in general surgery at Morristown Memorial Hospital, NJ, and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. Dr. Shariati comes to Saint Barnabas Health Care System from a successful private practice in Morristown, NJ. Dr. Shariati is a published author and is active in clinical research. Nazly M. Shariati, MD, was recently appointed Director of Thoracic Surgery at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. Dr. Shariati’s expertise includes surgical treatment of diseases of the chest including cancers of the lung, esophagus, and chest wall; tumors in the organs contained in the chest cavity; and transplantation of the heart and lungs.
