The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Team

The medical team consists of perinatologists (obstetricians with advanced training in the subspecialty of caring for high-risk pregnancies), perinatal nurses, ultrasonographers and genetic counselors with extensive training in high-risk pregnancy care.

Our perinatologists are board-certified in both obstetrics and gynecology, as well as maternal-fetal medicine.  They serve as consultants to your physician in managing a complicated pregnancy, and assist obstetricians in the tri-state area in the care of high-risk patients.  As members of the departmental faculty, they are actively involved in teaching and research in areas such as unique fetal therapies and pregnancies with multiple fetuses.

Our entire team is experienced in labor and delivery care as well as the special challenges posed by high-risk pregnancies.  Perinatal nurses educate our patients on the various aspects of their pregnancies; ultrasonographers assist the physicians in evaluating the pregnancy; and genetic counselors provide information on the possible risks of having an infant with complications.

While our perinatologists may rarely be the obstetricians for your delivery, their main and usual role is to act as a consultant to you and your obstetrician.
