PATHOLOGY

The Pathology Department encompasses such subsections as autopsy, surgical and forensic pathology, cytochemistry, histochemistry, cytopathology, clinical biochemistry, hematology, coagulation, clinical microscopy, microbiology, immunohematology, cytogenetics, serology, immunology, radioisotopes, tissue typing, flow cytometry, molecular pathology and electron microscopy. All of these branches of the department work in conjunction with obstetricians and gynecologists to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures.

Residents are provided extensive experience in this area. Weekly mandatory conferences relating to pathology are held by James L. Breen, M.D., Caterina A. Gregori, M.D., Thad R. Denehy, M.D. In addition, during the PGY-IV, the resident is assigned to pathology for one month, where one afternoon each week is spent with a pathologist processing slides from the operating room and reviewing gynecologic pathology slides.
