Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics Just like your children, The Department of Pediatrics at Saint Barnabas continues to grow. Through this growth, we are able to provide the best possible medical care and hospital experience for our pediatric patients, their families and the community in all areas of inpatient and outpatient pediatric services. We offer the expertise of a specialized team of physicians, including, neonatologists, pediatric critical care physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, child life coordinators, social workers and all other health care professionals dedicated to the well-being of the patients we serve. Virtually every major pediatric sub-specialty service is represented in the Pediatrics Department, including allergy, cardiology, child development, emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology/oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, intensive care, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology and rheumatology. Surgical specialty areas include craniofacial surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, opthalmology, orthopedic, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, transplant and urology. The attending staff includes more than 250 pediatric practitioners, and an integrated residency program with the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Our new state-of-the-art $8 million McMullen Children's Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center cares for more pediatric patients than any hospital in New Jersey. This “hospital within a hospital” is designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients and centralizes the existing pediatric services within one area of the Medical Center. The new unit includes child-friendly patient rooms, state-of-the-art nursing stations, new treatment and exam rooms and a cheerfully decorated playroom. Construction is currently being completed on the Center’s new 10-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Neonatology service is provided in one of the largest and most acute newborn nurseries in New Jersey. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is designed to care for critically ill and high-risk newborns. Saint Barnabas Medical Center is a Level III Regional Perinatal Center, the highest designation possible in New Jersey. The Division of Pediatric Nephrology and Transplantation of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System works closely with Saint Barnabas’ pediatric urologists. As the most experienced Pediatric Renal Transplant Program in New Jersey, the Division provides state-of-the-art medical care, including advanced diagnostic assessment and testing, and sensitive support for the family and child. The Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, located at 200 South Orange Avenue in Livingston, provides a wealth of outstanding pediatric specialists, advanced technologies, and scope of programs and services for children in an outpatient setting. Its Pediatric Specialty Center offers services in Developmental Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Genetics, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric Pulmonology and Rheumatology.
