The Pediatric Specialty Center of Saint Barnabas, located at Saint
Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, offers a wealth of outstanding pediatric specialties, advanced technologies and a full scope of programs and services in an outpatient setting. Our staff of

The Pediatric Division of Allergy and Immunology diagnoses and treats allergy-related disorders.

Behavior Development

The Pediatric Developmental Center provides medically diagnostic services and treatment of developmental problems, behavioral difficulties or learning delays. Referrals to special services or schools can be provided.

Pediatric Neurologist
Director of the Pediatric Developmental Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Dr. Morse is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her general pediatric training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She then went on to complete a residency in pediatric and adult neurology at Tufts New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, she completed a pediatric-epilepsy fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children.

Before joining the staff at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Dr. Morse practiced medicine in the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Tufts New England Medical Center/Floating Hospital for Children. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society, the Child Neurology Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Morse is board certified in Neurology with special qualifications in Child Neurology.

Endocrinology & Diabetes

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes is recognized by the American Diabetes Association and offers team-centered evaluation and management of Juvenile Diabetes and endocrine-related diagnosis. State-of-the-art diabetes therapy places an emphasis on insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensors. Staff members are active investigators. Our current research addresses Type 1 Diabetes and growth hormone therapy. Our team of certified diabetic educators is made up of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Registered Dieticians, and Clinical Social Workers who also offer diabetes self management classes. Dr. Newmark has completed his medical school training, pediatric residency, and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Washington University, Saint Louis Children's Hospital. He has vast experience in the treatment of infants, children and adolescents, with diabetes mellitus, growth disorders, thyroid abnormalities, obesity, and other endocrine disorders. Dr. Newmark has recently completed a study evaluating the benefits of utilizing postprandial blood sugars with the use of the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS sensor) in children with diabetes.

Gastroenterology

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology provides complete diagnostic testing, consultation, treatment and follow up for gastrointestinal and nutritional disorders, including Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and Hyperlipidemia.

Infectious Disease/Travel and Adoption Medicine

The Division of Infectious Disease and Pediatric Travel and Adoption Medicine provides evaluation and treatment for infectious illnesses as well as preventive counseling, testing and interventions and immunizations for parents and families based on their travel destinations. Consultation is provided for families with internationally adopted children.

Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist

Dr. Shah is a board-certified physician in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She specializes in the treatment of a variety of infectious illnesses.

She received her medical degree from BJ Medical College in India and moved to the U.S. to complete her residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Montefiore, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, N.Y. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Children’s Hospital of Montefiore, N.Y. Before joining the staff at Saint Barnabas, she held a faculty appointment as the Director of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Montefiore, while continuing her research in HIV resistance patterns. She is a member of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of America.

Neurology

The Division of Pediatric Neurology evaluates and diagnoses conditions including Muscular Dystrophy, Epilepsy, developmental delays and language disorders, tics and Tourette's syndrome, stroke, sleep disturbances and peripheral nerve disorders.

Psychiatry

The Division of Pediatric Psychiatry evaluates, diagnoses and treats children with highly specific learning or behavioral difficulties. The program works in tandem with school-based Child Study Teams.

Dr. Faber completed a fellowship in Child Psychiatry/Sleep Disorders at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson and performed his residency in general psychiatry at Yale Medical School Affiliates. He attended medical school at Ross University. He received a masters in Health Education and a bachelor of science degree, suma cum laude, from the University of Maryland.

He was included in the 2003 “Top Doctors” list featured in New Jersey Monthly magazine and was named to the 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Castle Connolly Guide to America’s Top Doctors. He was also named Health Professional of the Year for 2001 by The New Jersey Center for Outreach and Services for the Autism Community (COSAC).

Dr. Faber, whose specialties include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression and Anxiety, is board-certified in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry.

Pulmonology

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology uses advanced technologies for the treatment and management of respiratory-related disorders including Asthma and Cystic Fibrosis (CF). A team of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and social workers provide an individual action plan for each patient and ongoing patient education. As an Affiliate Center of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the program is involved in ongoing research studies for the treatment of CF.

Dr. Bisberg, a graduate of Cornell University Medical School and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at UMDNJ, has been caring for asthma and Cystic Fibrosis patients for more than 25 years. Prior to becoming Chief of the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology at Saint Barnabas in 2002, she was Director of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center where she also served as Chairperson of the Pediatric Asthma Committee and Clinical Project manager for the Inner City Asthma Intervention Program.

Dr Bisberg’s dedication to her patients has prompted her participation in many community outreach programs as well as state-wide endeavors, including: the Newark Pediatric Asthma Coalition, the Pediatric/Adult Asthma Coalition of New Jersey, Chairperson of the Pediatric Pulmonology Committee and pediatric representative to the Region II Asthma Summit for the New Jersey Thoracic Society. She also serves as the Director of the Knights of Pythias Cystic Fibrosis Center, an affiliate center of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Dr Bisberg has been included in “Best Doctors” lists featured in New York and New Jersey Monthly magazines and Castle Connolly Guide, How to Find the Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area. She has also been listed in Marquis’ Who's Who in Medicine.

Pediatric Sleep Specialist

Barry A. Cohen, M.D., a board-certified physician in pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine, has been treating children with sleep disorders for almost 20 years and is considered an expert in infant apnea. He specializes in pediatric pulmonary medicine along with Dorothy S. Bisberg, M.D., at the Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, and also treats both adults and children with sleep disorders at The Kazmir Center for Sleep Disorders at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Dr. Cohen received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. He performed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron, Ohio, and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York. He received his training in Sleep Medicine at the School of Sleep Medicine in Palo Alto, CA. Dr. Cohen has had faculty appointments at Ohio State University School of Medicine; John A. Burns School of Medicine, Hawaii; Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine; Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Ohio; and Des Moines University, Ohio.

Rheumatology

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment and management of a variety of therapies for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Pediatric Lyme Disease, Fibromyalgia, Vasculitis and Sarcoidosis. The program is under the direction of one of only a few pediatric rheumatologists
in New Jersey. Staff is active in ongoing research for the treatment of rheumatologic disorders.

Elizabeth Chalom, M.D.

Director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

Dr. Chalom -- one of three board-certified pediatric rheumatologists in the state of New Jersey - provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents with rheumatologic disorders. She received her medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her training in pediatrics and pediatric rheumatology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Chalom is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Dr. Chalom also serves on the executive board of the Arthritis Foundation of New Jersey. As Chairperson of the Foundation’s Juvenile Arthritis Committee, she helped initiate a summer camp for children with rheumatic disorders.

Dr. Chalom has been honored for her work in Pediatric Rheumatology by the American Medical Association and the Arthritis Association of New Jersey. She has written numerous articles on rheumatologic disorders and their treatments, as well as chapters in pediatric textbooks on topics such as Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and Lyme disease. Along with an extremely busy practice, Dr. Chalom has also served as the principal investigator for various clinical trails.

Healthy LIFE Pediatric Weight Management Program

As part of the The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, this comprehensive group and individualized program for weight management includes behavioral change, nutrition education, physical activity instruction and healthy lifestyle skill development. Psychological counseling related to eating disorders and weight-related issues is also available.
