TIA stands for transient ischemic attack. Some people call them mini-strokes but they're not really. A patient having a TIA will have the same symptoms that a stroke patient experiences. The difference is that a TIA is not permanent; it lasts usually less than one hour although it can last up to 24 hours before the symptoms go away. Don't be fooled. If you have a TIA it is a warning sign that a stroke may be imminent. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because the symptoms went away that it is not serious. This may be your only warning before you have an actual stroke. Go to the hospital or at a minimum, call your doctor immediately. Time is essential if a stroke is to be prevented.[ top ] |
