Having Your Baby at The James L. Breen, M.D.
The Obstetrical Pavilion, dedicated in 2001, honors Dr. Breen’s distinguished tenure at Saint Barnabas as Chairman of the Department of OB/GYN from 1969 to 2000 and his continued service as a gynecologic oncologist. His long-standing vision of excellence has become the cornerstone of the Department. Saint Barnabas continues to lead the state in childbirths with 7,110 babies born at the hospital in 2001. Credit for having the most deliveries in New Jersey is due, in part, to the Medical Center’s distinguished reputation in the areas of assisted reproduction, a strong team of maternal-fetal specialists for high-risk pregnancies, and the most advanced intensive care for all premature and ill newborn infants. Saint Barnabas is a state-designated Regional Perinatal Center with a 50-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It is one of only 16 NICUs nationwide to care for more than 1,000 babies each year. Families seeking prenatal parenting or childbirth education information have a wide variety to choose from at the Medical Center. The Women’s Health Education Department offers the following selections:
In addition, the Family Centered Care nursing team invites parents and their babies to return to the ambulatory facility after discharge for two free informational programs, Parenting Insights and Breastfeeding Support Group. A Postpartum Depression Support Group is also available at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center.
