Ronald J. Del Mauro Chairman, Saint Barnabas Health Care System has always been committed to raising quality and safety to the highest level. There are more collaborative system-wide quality initiatives than ever, as well as an increase in standardizing practices that ultimately improve patient care.

Our health care system is among the leaders nationwide, based on publicly reported quality indicators such as the treatment of pneumonia and heart attacks. In 2005, we dramatically reduced the rate of infection in our Intensive care Units, received prestigious certification as Chest Pain Centers, and continued to provide the most progressive cancer treatments.

It is our mission that the Saint Barnabas Health Care System continue to embody excellence in every facet of our organization. We look forward to continued successes that benefit our patients.

At Saint Barnabas Medical Center, we have embarked on a renewed effort to protect patient privacy. By signing a confidentiality agreement, every employee agrees to protect the privacy of patients under our care. Our patients have entrusted their care to us and it is one of our greatest responsibilities to protect them.

In addition to our focus on privacy, we also want to help hospitalized patients connect with loved ones during their stay. Saint Barnabas now offers an innovative service called CarePages, which is an Internet-based communications system that allows patients to create a personalized, private and secure web page. These pages are accessible to individuals with whom the patient would like to share information. CarePages are designed to make it easy for patients to remain in contact with their family and friends while in the hospital and after discharge.

Patients and their family members can customize the service to include updates about their care and recovery, visiting hours, contact information and photographs, and a forum to exchange messages of support and encouragement. We are proud to offer CarePages as a novel way to support patients and families. This is one more example of our commitment to deliver the best and most innovative services to our patients.
