Saint Barnabas Health Care System

Ronald J. Del Mauro Chairman, Americans are sophisticated consumers who have applied their demand for both high quality and convenience to their health care needs as well. Today, while a wealth of outpatient services are provided at Saint Barnabas System hospitals, increasingly they are also becoming available at our freestanding ambulatory care centers located in community-based locations, where the hours of operation are often extended and waiting times for appointments can be shorter.

This year, more that 65 percent of the surgeries performed in this country will be done on an ambulatory basis. Minimally invasive surgical techniques employ small cameras that can see deep into the body through small incisions ------ which means less trauma to the body, fewer complications, significantly less pain and quicker recovery time. Tonsillectomy, hernia repair and gallbladder removal are just a few of the surgeries that can be done on an outpatient basis without compromising quality of care. In this issue of Family Health Magazine, you can learn more about the minimally invasive surgery revolution.

As leaders in the health care industry predict an accelerated march toward ambulatory care, the Saint Barnabas Health Care System is once again in the forefront. As New Jersey’s largest health care provider, we will continue to lead the way in offering the newest technologies to improve care, contain costs and return patients to the comforts of their own homes.
