Quartell Begins Term as President of Saint Barnabas Medical Center Medical Staff

Anthony Charles Quartell, M.D., an attending physician in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, will serve as president of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Medical Staff, effective now through March 31, 2004.

A resident of Livingston, Dr. Quartell serves on the Executive Committee of Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s OB/GYN Department. In the past he has served on the Board of Governors of the Medical Society of New Jersey and the New Jersey Obstetricians and Gynecological Society. He previously served as a clinical assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New Jersey Medical School, College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and as a visiting professor at the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2000, 2001, and 2003 New York Magazine named Dr. Quartell to its “Best Doctors in NY/Tri-state Area” and in 2001 he was placed on the 2001 “Top Doctors” list featured in NJ Monthly. He is also the 1998 recipient of the National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education from the Committee on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Quartell served as Clinical Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas from 1995 to 1998, and was Chairman of the Perinatal Review Committee at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He has also served separate terms as vice president, treasurer and secretary of the Saint Barnabas Medical Staff.

Dr. Quartell received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Fordham University and his Doctorate of Medicine from New Jersey College of Medicine. He did his postgraduate training in surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and at New Jersey Medical School, College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Dr. Quartell is certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Council for Gynecological Endoscopy. He is a Fellow of the following societies: the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, American College of Abdominal Surgeons, American Society of Colposcopy and Colpomicroscopy and the American Fertility Society. He is a member of the American College of Physicians Executives, the Essex County Medical Society, the Medical Society of New Jersey, the James L. Breen Residents’ Society, and The Academy of Medicine of New Jersey.

The other elected officers to the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Medical Staff include: Ruplanaik Gourishanker, M.D., First Vice President; Bennett Rothenberg, M.D., Second Vice President; Robert Schuman, M.D., Treasurer, and Stuart Geffner, M.D., Secretary.
