Free Education Series to Address Hot Topics for Parents Saint Barnabas Medical Center, which traditionally treats more pediatric patients than any other hospital in New Jersey, is pleased to offer an invaluable, free educational series, entitled “Hot Topics for Parents.” Physician experts from The Pediatric Specialty Center of Saint Barnabas Medical Center will address key issues regarding child health and wellness. Many things may be robbing your child of a good night’s sleep and the consequences are more serious than most parents may realize. Your child’s health, safety, growth, behavior and ability to learn may be affected. Barry A. Cohen, M.D., a pediatric sleep expert, will discuss these issues plus others and offer solutions to help your child get the proper rest that he or she needs at Better Sleep for Your Child on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. On Tuesday, March 7, 2006, Pediatric Neurologist Lara Elizabeth Morse, M.D., Director of the Pediatric Developmental Center at Saint Barnabas, will offer help to parents who question if their child is reaching his or her developmental milestones at the expected times, when parents and caregivers should be concerned, and what can be done to help foster a child’s development at a seminar entitled “Is My Child Developmentally Delayed?” To assure unplanned illness does not derail your family’s vacation, Infectious Disease specialist Falguni Shah, M.D., will address the unique health and safety risks that children face while traveling and present the signs or symptoms of travel-related illness. She will recommend preventable vaccines and medications for infections prevalent in international travel such as Malaria, Hepatitis and Travelers’ Diarrhea. These topics may also be of interest to families who are in the process of adopting a child from another country. Traveling Safely with Children will be held on Monday, April 3, 2006. The Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, offers outpatient pediatric specialty services in the areas of Behavior Development, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Allergy, Surgery, Neurology and Weight Management. In addition, the Medical Center’s state-of-the-art $8 million Children’s Center is a “hospital within a hospital” designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients and includes child-friendly patient rooms, state-of-the-art nursing stations, new treatment and exam rooms and a cheerfully decorated playroom. Ample time for questions and answers will be available at each program. All classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Avenue in Livingston. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-888-SBHS-123.
