Berliner Elected to American Board of Genetic Counseling

Janice L. BerlinerLivingston, N.J. -- Janice L. Berliner, MS, CGC, a resident of Berkeley Heights, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC). Ms. Berliner will serve a five-year term and assist the Board in its efforts to accredit genetic counseling training programs and to provide genetic counselors with internationally recognized board certification.

A certified genetic counselor, Ms. Berliner curently oversees The Cancer Genetic Counseling Program at The Cancer Centers of Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. She provides cancer risk assessment, genetic counseling, and psychosocial support for individuals concerned about their risks of developing cancer. She is also available to provide education concerning cancer risk assessment to medical professionals as well as to the community.

She received her Master of Science degree in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling from the University of Michigan and has more than 19 years of professional experience in genetic counseling. Prior to joining Saint Barnabas in 2005, she was employed by The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She has authored numerous publications and, throughout her career, has provided continuing education for medical professionals as well as for the public. She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and was named the recipient of their 2005 Regional Leadership Award.
