IRMS Nurse Nominated for 2007 Joanne J. Amato Livingston, N.J .— Westfield resident Patricia Rucinsky, RN, BSN, Nurse Coordinator with Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s Institute of Reproductive Medicine and Science (IRMS), is the only nurse from New Jersey to be nominated by the North East Region RESOLVE for an award for excellence in patient care. The 2007 Joanne J. Amato Excellence in Nursing Award recognizes outstanding nurse clinicians in the Northeast Region who demonstrate outstanding clinical skills, a compassionate manner, and dedication to the care of infertile couples. Four nurses who exemplify these high standards have been nominated to receive the award, and the awardee will be announced during the Annual Night of Hope Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 6, 2007. “Pat Rucinsky is everything that an infertility nurse should be,” says Serena H. Chen, M.D., Division Chief of Reproductive Medicine and Director of the Egg Donation Program at IRMS at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “She has an excellent fund of medical knowledge and it is always a pleasure for the physicians to work with her. But what makes her really special is the way she makes each and every patient feel that all their needs are being met – medical and emotional. In the field of infertility, emotional support of our patients is one of the most critical and challenging aspects of nursing.” Mrs. Rucinsky, who has been a nurse for thirty years, says that her role at the IRMS allows her to utilize all of her experience for the comprehensive care provided to their patients. She was pleased and surprised by the recent nomination “When I found out that the nomination was initiated by my coworkers and peers, that was the best award I could ever receive,” she relates.
