Free Education Series to Address Hot Topics for Parents

Saint Barnabas Medical Center, which treats more pediatric patients than any other hospital in New Jersey, is pleased to offer an invaluable, free educational series, entitled “Hot Topics for Parents.” Physician experts from The Pediatric Specialty Center of Saint Barnabas Medical Center will address key issues regarding child health and wellness.

At “Obesity and Weight Management in Children” on Wednesday, January 26, parents will gain invaluable strategies about how to detect eating disorders in children and ways to distinguish between physiological and psychological eating-related problems. The class will be led by renowned Pediatric Endocrinologist, Henry Anhalt, D.O., FAAP, FACOP, FACE, CDE, Director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Saint Barnabas, who will also provide ways to help create and set positive eating strategies for young children and teenagers.

On Tuesday, February 15, Pediatric and Adolescent Psychiatry expert, Mark Faber, M.D., will offer help to parents who question whether their child has ADHD and provide information on how to recognize and deal with symptoms of depression and anxiety in children in an enlightening seminar entitled, “When to Call the Child Psychiatrist.”

Elizabeth Chalom, M.D., Director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Saint Barnabas, and one of only three Pediatric Rheumatologists in the state, will explain how to recognize the symptoms of Lyme Disease in children and offer practical steps for treatment. “Lyme Disease in New Jersey: Fact versus Fiction,” will be held on Wednesday, March 16.

The Pediatric Specialty Center, located at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, offers outpatient pediatric specialty services in the areas of Behavior Development, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry Allergy, Surgery, Neurology and Sports Medicine. In addition, the Medical Center’s state-of-the-art $8 million Children’s Center is a “hospital within a hospital” designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients and includes child-friendly patient rooms, state-of-the-art nursing stations, new treatment and exam rooms and a cheerfully decorated playroom.

Ample time for questions and answers will be available at each program. All classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center, 200 South Orange Avenue in Livingston. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-888-SBHS-123.
