Mind / Body Medicine
(Private Practice Psychologist)

Mind/Body Medicine focuses on the interactions between the mind and the body and the powerful ways in which physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual factors directly affect health. Mind/Body Medicine involves the application of a variety of psychological techniques and knowledge shown to be effective in changing mood, behavior and consciousness.

Mind/Body modalities include:

Biofeedback:  A training technique used to help people to understand their body signals to relax tense muscles and to lessen or alleviate stress.

Cognitive Therapy:  A therapeutic approach focusing on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behaviors and physiology.

Guided Imagery:  The process of assisting someone to create images in their mind, which induces a state of peaceful relaxation. This is often accomplished through reading descriptive passage to someone as they mentally imagine a particular place or location.

Hypnotherapy:  The process of inducing a state of concentration and responsiveness to suggestion, thus allowing the mind's defenses to be bypassed for positive and desirable changes in behavior.

Stress Management:  The process of teaching people to identify stress warning signals and effective strategies to prevent and cope with the onset of stress. A variety of group and individual techniques are available.
