UPJ obstruction is a congenital narrowing of the ureter or
the small, tube-like structure that carries urine from the
kidneys to the bladder. Using minimally invasive robotic methods,
surgeons are able to perform the reconstructive surgery with
very high precision through four incisions of a half-inch or
less. For muscle-invasive bladder cancer or superficially recurrent
bladder cancer, parts of the complex surgery can be performed
using the da Vinci® S Surgical System. The procedure requires
the removal of the bladder, lymph nodes, part of the urethra
and the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and a small
part of vagina.
