The full range of CPR and first aid instruction, from basic to the
most advanced courses in adult and pediatric life
support, is now provided by the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Community
Training Center at Newark
Beth Israel Medical Center.
As New Jersey’s largest provider of CPR instruction, the Community
Training Center offers programs in Basic
Life Support, Advanced Cardiac
Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Cardiac
Life Support, and Neonatal
Resuscitation, as well as Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) training, First Aid, Heart
Saver and BLS
Instructor Development courses.
Courses
are offered year-round at all six acute care facilities
in the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. All programs
are certified by the American Heart Association,
except for the neonatal resuscitation course, which is certified by
the American Academy of Pediatrics.
With 275 trained instructors across the state, the
Community Training Center provides easy access
to training for people who live and work throughout
New Jersey. When the program was started at Newark Beth Israel Medical
Center in 1985, 125 people were trained in the first year. Since then
the program has grown tremendously, training more than 21,000 individuals
in 2000-2001, making it the #1 training center in New Jersey, according
to the American
Heart Association.

Beth Israel Medical Center is an authorized ACLS, BLS, and PALS training
center for the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency
in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for
this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not
represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any
fees for such a course, except a small portion of fees needed for AHA
course materials, does not represent income by the Association.
